Scam, Spam and Robo Dialer Calls
VoIP Much
>
Technical Information
Unfortunately, there is no possible way to identify a scam or spam call from a wanted call.
But here are a few feature options available, to help reduce these unwanted calls.
1) Call Blacklist
Call Blacklist will block calls from phone numbers you don't want to receive calls from.
Blacklisted callers will receive an 'Out of Service' message when attempting to call your number
https://support.voipmuch.ca/kb/a6/call-blacklist-anonymous-call-rejection.aspx
Pro
: Block calls from unwanted phone numbers (callers will receive an out of service message, if their number is blocked). This is good for known spammers, that call from the same number(s).
Con
: Most robo-dialer and spam calls will randomly spoof their numbers, making it impossible to block (since their next call will be from a different randomly spoofed number.
2) Anonymous Call Block
Block callers that do not show their phone number.
https://support.voipmuch.ca/kb/a6/call-blacklist-anonymous-call-rejection.aspx
Pro
: Callers that hide their phone number are blocked and presented with a message that you do not accept calls from blocked numbers.
Cons
: Calls from blocked numbers will not get through (ie: some doctors offices are known to block their phone numbers)
3
) Call Confirm
Block automated systems from calling you, by presenting callers with a confirmation message. Callers are prompted to enter a randomly generated number between 1 and 9. Once the correct entry is pressed, the call is connected.
https://support.voipmuch.ca/kb/a144/call-confirm.aspx
Pro
: Most robo-dialer and spam call systems are unable to get over this confirm step, eliminating most unwanted calls.
Con
: All your callers are prompted to confirm, before being connected.
4) Do Not Call Registry
The Do Not Call Registry will [only] stop calls from legitimate telemarketing agencies.
